Counselling Approach

Adam uses a flexible multi-modal approach based on Solution Focussed Therapy,  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trauma Informed Care, and Mindfulness. Linked with these are the principals of self-determination and empowerment. Adam ensures the key focus is to support people to overcome the challenges they are facing and to achieve their goals.

You can expect that in the counselling sessions you will have a private and comfortable environment. The first session will be focussed on hearing what the issues are for you and developing options that you want to start working on. At the end of every session, you can give feedback on how the counselling is progressing. It can continually be tailored to meet your needs.

How a counsellor can help

Counselling can be helpful because sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends. A counsellor can listen to you and help you find your own answers to problems. A counsellor will respect you and your opinions, and provide a sounding board for you to consider the various options that might be available to you. Counselling can be helpful for dealing with lots of things in a safe and contained environment that is confidential. Counselling can improve communication of negative emotions and can help to elevate mood. A counsellor can help you navigate the systems around you, whether that is your family system, the health system, work system or education system. Counselling can help if you need to have some difficult conversations with people around you. Counselling can often be serious, but supporting people to find fun in their lives is important.

Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise.
